Say hello to Carolina, she’s one of our amazing massage therapists in Los Altos who is celebrating her one year anniversary at Kua Body! Carolina studied massage therapy at Trinity College, and has been a massage therapist for over 15 years. Between working at Massage Therapy Center (MTC) in Palo Alto, Better Life Chiropractic in Los Altos, and doing out calls, she has worked all around the South Bay and Peninsula. She loves spending time with her kids, enjoying everything nature has to offer, and healing others.
What brought you to bodywork and specifically massage therapy?
I always knew I wanted to work with my hands. I first learned about massage therapy as a young adult and knew instantly it was something I would be very interested in. School was never easy for me but as soon as I started attending massage therapy school I instantly fell in love with the work and school came naturally to me for the first time.
Helping clients feel their best is the most rewarding thing about my job and working at Kua Body with highly skilled massage therapists makes that possible!
What inspired you to become a massage therapist?
I always have been interested in how our mind, body, and soul work together, and the importance of human touch, so at the age of 22 I decided to explore that concept. That lead me to massage school, where as I learned to heal others I started healing myself. I was able to understand how much our bodies are tied to our emotions, and what healing touch can do for the mind, body, and soul. Being able to help someone find relief is such a blessing. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
After working for multiple companies, what made you want to venture out and start your own massage therapy practice?
I have been a massage therapist for 15 years, during which most of this time I have worked for others. I have always dreamed of running my own business, and I felt it was time to push myself. I also had some life changing experiences that made me realize the importance of following your dreams. I wanted to have more say over my time and how I helped my clients.
I also felt inspired by some of the other therapists at Kua Body, some of whom I’ve known for years. Seeing them grow their own businesses was inspiring. The Kua Body team is all about helping one another grow.
Carolina always dreamed of running her own business.

Being a business owner for over a year now, what are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned?
Being open to the possibilities. The reasons that stop you from following your dreams are the limits you put on yourself. I always worried about making it on my own. Once I took that leap of faith it all worked out. It is exciting and fun to run your own business. It takes a lot of love and time but it is worth it. It was interesting to see how all the limitation I has put on myself soon worked themselves out.
Which massage modality that you offer is your favorite and why?
I love them all! I like to utilize the many modalities I have acquired over the years to customize each session for whatever my clients need.
How did you develop interest in Energy Healing?
I was a very sensitive child and felt people’s energies. That made me want to understand why I felt that way. While in Massage school Reki was one of the modalities they offered. Reki is energy work. The word Reki means Universal Life Energy. We all have energy flowing through us. In some cases that energy can become stuck and cause different ailments. It all came full circle for me, the power of touch, the power of our energies and the impact it has on our mind, bodies and soul.
“Self care is so important. When we are full we can give more to others”

What is one wellness tip you’d like to give all your clients?
Listen to your body. Our bodies talk to us all the time. It is important to listen and give our body what it needs. I had a situation last year where I found myself doing just that. I had a lingering pain and I didn’t feel like myself. I decided to truly listen to my body and go see a doctor. I learned I had a mass in a very troublesome area that was causing many of my issues. There was even a possibility it was cancer. I had to undergo a major surgery and although my results were negative for cancer, it has been a long and intense journey of healing for me. I was tested physically, mentally and emotionally. I have learned that it is important to listen to your body. Sometimes it is as simple as taking it easy, treating yourself right, or in some cases something even bigger. Self care is so important. When we are full we can give more to others.
Explain one unique aspect of Kua Body that you love.
One of the things I love about Kua Body is I get to run my own business, but I’m still a part of a team. We all have our own businesses but work together and help each other, it’s an amazing thing to be a part of. The way these Ladies rallied around me was amazing, The amount of love and respect the Kua Body team has for one another is so special. I am blessed to be a part of this team.
